Rodents’ instincts make them difficult to control, and they present a serious menace to your home. If you’re in need of rodent control services. Others like dry, warm areas such as subfloor air vents, upper corners of rooms and attics. Hide in dark areas. Invades buildings while foraging for food throughout the year. Nests are outdoors under stones, along curbs or in cracks of pavement. Can nest indoors in walls and under floors.A Pavement Ant Queen produces five to 20 eggs per day; brood develops in about 40 days; young go through three larval stages.Adults about 3/4-inch long with three dark bands on the head and thin antennae. Body is yellowish-brown. Closely Related to the Coachroach. There are two types general types of termites to watch out for: Drywood and Subterranean. Four "castes" of a termite colony: workers are approximately 1/4-inch long, light-colored and wingless; soldiers have elongated heads with mandibles; supplementary reproductives are light-colored and wingless or have very short, nonfunctional wings. Since termites are a constant threat to your home, here are some things you can do during the year to help maintain the effectiveness of Western's termite treatment plan.Cockroaches can wreak havoc on your home. To win the war in cockroach control, here’s what you should know: Entry: Cockroaches can enter your home in many different ways, from the outside through cracks and crevices, vents, sewer and drain pipes. We even bring them in on products like grocery bags, boxes, purses and on our person! Ideal environment: Your home is an ideal breeding ground most species of cockroaches. With plenty of food, warmth, water and nesting sites, they can remain active all year round. Reproduction: Cockroaches reproduce quickly. For every one you see there can be many, many more hiding and multiplying behind your walls. Evasiveness: Because cockroaches are nocturnal, if you’ve seen one, you probably haven’t seen them all. The few cockroaches you see by day could mean they were likely forced out by overcrowding; a possible sign of severe infestation. Allergies/Asthma: The dust created by cast-off cockroach skins, dead bodies and droppings can aggravate allergies, especially in children and sensitive individuals. Do-it-yourself ineffectiveness: Cockroaches are better at hiding than you are at finding them, and their eggs are naturally protected from insecticides. Without special equipment, materials and know-how, cockroach control can

8 Things you should ask when picking a pest control company.

1. Quality Pro Company

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) sets forth standards that every good pest control company in the country should meet.  In the past few years, the NPMA has given out special certification to those pest control companies that meet the very highest levels of customer satisfaction, service, and industry training.  These companies receive Quality Pro certification.  Of the over 15,000 members of the NPMA, less than 200 have qualified as Quality Pro companies.

2. Insurance is not a "given"

Utah is one of only a handful of states that does not require pest control companies to have insurance.  A standard insurance policy for an average pest control company is 1 million dollars.

3. Training of Service Tech

The quality and effectiveness of a pest control service is determined largely by the training and knowledge of the technician.  There are many pest control companies that spend less than a day training their technicians before they come into your home to spray.  This lack of training leads to ineffective and unprofessional services, misinformation, and even dangerous application methods.

4. Hiring Practices

Pest control is a trade that requires a lot of trust from the homeowner.  It is important to know that the person pulling up in the truck outside is not a felon, "druggy," creep, or something worse.  Your pest control company should be doing thorough background checks and drug screenings on all their employees.

5. Safe and Effective Products

There are literally hundreds of pest control chemicals, mixtures, and products that could be used in and around your home.  It is important that the products applied around your home are the safest and most effective products on the market.  Unfortunately, there is the temptation for some bug companies to use cheaper, less effective products.

6. Convenience Program

In Southern Utah, having a regular pest control service is part of life. The key to effective pest control is consistency.  Be cautious of pest control companies that do not come when they say they will, or if they forget to call and set up another appointment.  The best companies have a schedule where they come on the same day of each month that your home is serviced.

7. On-time Services

Nobody likes waiting all day for the "bug guy" to show up.  It has been a common practice for pest control companies to give homeowners a time interval for when their home will be serviced.  The problem is that many of these companies expect you to be home from 10am-4pm or 9am-5pm. The best companies can manage their schedules so they are  able to give you a time interval within an hour of when they will be there.

8. Call Back Ratio

The easiest way to tell if a pest control company is effective is by looking at how many times their customers had to call them back because the bugs did not go away.  The national average for call-backs is approximately 10%.
