I have scorpions!!! Should I move or burn the house down?
I can not tell you how many times I have had a client call me with a scorpion issue and they are seriously considering one of these two options. And with good reason Scorpions are a scary bug!
These critters are even difficult for professionals to deal with.
Here are a few things that you can do to prevent scorpions in your home:
- Remove any harborage areas: Scorpions like to conceal themselves during the day and tend to hide under large rocks, woodpiles, mulch, and the bark of trees. Almost any debris pile is a potential hiding spot for these dreadful extraskeletal creatures.
- Sealing the house: Replace worn-out weatherstripping often. If you can slip a credit card through it they can get in!
- Eliminate the food source: Scorpions feed on other insects, and on top of that these little cannibals also eat their own kind. Regular pest control will help keep their food source low and help keep them from entering your home.
- Search with a black-light: The outer shell of a scorpion glows brightly under a black-light. Walking your property late at night with a black-light can show you potential nesting sites and give you a location to focus your efforts.
Unfortunately, once an area gets scorpions it is almost impossible to eliminate them completely. However, if you stay vigilant you can greatly reduce the incidents of them invading your home. The best part is … you won’t need to burn your house down!
